One thought no one could take over, but not at all. Arount 40 years after GENE VINCENT’s death (1935-71), the relief is there! ERVIN TRAVIS sure is, vocally speaking, Gene Vincent’s worthy successor, at the least the first one whose voice comes so alike it’s hard to tell apart. Ervin discovers Rock and Roll in the 70’s and becomes soon aware that his vocal tessitura is close to Gene’s. In the 80’s, he starts his first band, "MEMORIES GENE", who makes a name in the rock and roll French circle. But the best is still to come! The rumor of Ervin’s talent starts to swell in Rockland. The release of the tremendous album "FROM TIDEWATER TO DALLAS" brightly confirms Ervin Travis’ talent, this time superbly backed by the VIRGINIANS. On stage consecration will come on December 2001 at the Salle Wagram, in Paris. That evening, the first hour fans, those who witnessed Gene in France at l’Etoile, at the Olympia, at the Palais des Sports, at La Mutualité, at l’Alhambra, are there. Their ruling is final! After the first dantesque set, they just can’t believe it, some have tears in their eyes! Some time later, Ervin & The Virginians’ talent is rewarded by numerous gigs across the Channel, including the famous Hemsby festival where, on may 2003, they come to a climax. Ever since, with the passing years, Ervin Travis performed all over Europe, in almost big name festivals. Today he is backed by the New Virginians : Fred Kolinsky(drums) & Damien Daigniau (piano), as well as Philippe Fessard (guitar) & Gilles Tournon (bass), 2 of the founding members of the renowned Virginians with whom he toured several years (2001/2005). Ervin Travis & the New Virginians is an endless, deep, stirring and sincere tribute to Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps. Besides gestural, every intonations, every tremor are given in a faithful rendition that takes any vanity off the exercise to endow it with a fascinating depth. Ervin’s voice succeeds in merging with Gene’s voice. The experience is thrilling. Bewitching. One and only! This work could only be carried out by true lovers!
